With the Euro 2024 competition well underway, many football fans will be looking to root for a winner. While there are plenty of favourites to win the competition this year, you should not discount the underdogs. There are several countries who could well clinch the win this year, so let’s take a look at who could cause an upset and claim the cup for themselves.
Slovakia
Slovakia have qualified for the competition for a third time in successive Euros, so they are one that you need to keep an eye on if you want to predict the winner.
A lot of success is thanks to their manager, Francesco Calzona. Now the manager of both the Slovakian national team and Napoli, he has managed his team to come to second in their group, only finishing behind Portugal. In fact, with 17 goals scored throughout the campaign, it was an impressive season for them.
Currently, odds on Slovakia to win are at 150/1 according to the bookmakers at Betfree, so if you feel they have what it takes this could be a very lucrative bet to make.
Albania
Albania are back at the competition, after having failed to qualify for Euro 2020. They have been showing real progress over the last 10 years, having reached their first ever European Championship back in 2016. They managed to beat Romania, and suffered quite narrow defeats against France and Switzerland.
Now they are back at the events, they managed to secure their place in the finals having finished above checks Republic and Poland, in order to top group E.
Right now, the team have a lot of talent on board, and should be able to make things difficult for even some of the favourites to win. They’re only weakness right now is in attack, because they lack a resolute goal scorer. Odds on Albania to win are at 500/1, making them a real outsider but one you want to keep an eye on.
Romania
This is Romania's sixth European Championship, and only once have they made it beyond the group stages of the competition. However, they are looking to change that this year.
The team has an excellent showing during the qualifying stages, eventually finishing 5 points above Switzerland and coming out of this campaign undefeated. They are seen as being a very competitive team, allowing their opposition very little leeway to score themselves.
Romania have a real chance of making it through the competition, and potentially even winning it. Right now, the odds are at 200/1, so if you like a bet on an underdog, this is the bet for you.
Georgia
If you are hoping to place a bet on a dark horse in the championship this year, then you are going to want to take a look at Georgia. Currently, their odds are at 1500/1, so if you bet and they do win it’d be a big win for you.
Why would you bet on them? They have worked hard to reach the competition this year, having beaten Greece on penalties in their playoff game, which allows them to secure their place in the finals for the very first time.
Because of this, they will be working their absolute hardest to do the best they can in the competition. They have a very accomplished team this year, and that could really put some of the favourites to win on the back foot. They have gone up against some very strong opposition, such as Scotland the Norway, and ended their games in draws. They may well have what it takes to go all the way.
Slovenia
Right now, the odds on Slovenia winning this year are at 150/1, and they are showing a strong opposition to the teams they’re facing right now. They were especially strong during the qualifiers, finishing on the same level as group H winners Denmark.
This year marks only the second time Slovenia have been able to make it to the euros since they have become an independent nation. They may not have some of the star names that you see on other teams right now, but they really should not be underestimated when it comes to skill.
For example, in their recent friendly with Portugal, they managed a 2-0 friendly win, which was a real upset. Many feel that the team will have a good chance of reaching the knockout stages. To do so and have a shot at winning the title, they will need to be on top form throughout the entire process.
There are some firm favourites to win the Euros this year, all of these teams could well have what it takes to snatch the win for themselves. If you feel confident in any of them, now is the right time to place a bet on them. You could well see them earn the win.
